Job Summary:

AMETEK IntelliPower is seeking a dynamic and results-driven New Product Development (NPD) Engineer with strong project management skills to lead the design, development, and launch of innovative products, mainly Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) related, from concept to commercialization. This hybrid role requires engineering expertise and project management skills. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and project leadership to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of new products that meet market and customer needs.


Candidates must be able to commute to offices in Orange, CA and Irvine, CA.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead New Product Development (NPD): Manage the full product development lifecycle from concept to market launch, including design, prototyping, testing, and documentation. Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) through accurate documentation and optimized build/test plans.
  • Product Introduction: Lead and oversee design and the transition from development to manufacturing, ensuring smooth ramp-up and production readiness.
  • Project Management: Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, gate reviews, budgets, and resource allocations. Monitor progress, mitigate risks, and manage scope changes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Proactively identify project risks, resolve issues, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Lead prototype development and validation testing. Create and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure product performance and feasibility.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with engineering, supply chain, quality, purchasing, and marketing teams. Own and ensure documentation accuracy throughout development and launch phases.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate compliance testing and certification efforts to meet industry standards (e.g., UL, CE, IEC) and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Documentation: Create, oversee and manage technical documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports. Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for product enhancements and cost optimization.
  • Supplier & Vendor Engagement: Collaborate with suppliers, test agencies, and vendors for component selection, validation, and approval.
  • Technical Development: Support the design and development of UPS systems, including power electronics, battery integration, thermal management, and enclosure design.
  • Global Team Collaboration: Work closely with global teams of electrical, firmware, and mechanical engineers to develop and validate prototypes. Ensure coordinated execution and on-time delivery.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
  • 5+ years of experience in product development and project management, preferably in power electronics, power supplies, or UPS systems.
  • Proven track record of launching successful products in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk identification and mitigation, and proficiency with project management tools.
  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Monday.com).
  • Solid understanding of power systems, batteries, thermal design, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to navigate dynamic environments with shifting priorities.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to generate clear reports and presentations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in the UPS, power supply, or power electronics industry.
  • Familiarity with stage-gate development methodologies.
  • Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery systems, inverters, or energy storage technologies.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • PMP certification or equivalent is a plus.
